State of liberation

It’s your day off. The weather is that perfect blend of sunny and cool. You have a sudden craving to leave the urban jungle with its noise, hassle and placid air. You want to throw off your tie, dump your briefcase and head far away from your daily mess, to ride along sun-drenched winding roads and speed away on narrow lanes. As you’re reading this, it may all seem like a far off fantasy. But dream no more, because the GG Quad bike may just be the potion that will quench your thirst for liberty.

This four-wheeled vehicle combines the features of a sports car with the agility of a motorcycle, giving you the ride of your day-off, if not your life. In this case, the sum is greater than the individual parts because not only does this bike have sports car dynamics and swiftness, it also has super-car looks. For one moment imagine cruising down the Corniche or pulverising a tight corner on this super-sleek machine with aggressive Xenon headlamp, an attractive waist line and a beautifully pert rear-end, as well as gorgeous 17-inch OZ wheels.

The attention to detail paid by Swiss manufacturers GG Motorradtechnik GmbH is so staggering it will exorcise any assumptions you may have. For instance, this may look good but beauty is really only skin deep. The company has used state-of-the-art CNC machines to manufacture high-quality parts using aircraft aluminium. It also had the good sense of using a BMW twin-cylinder boxer engine, which provides 95hp (in spite of its relatively small 1130cc capacity) and 98Nm of torque. Combine this with a lightweight billet aluminium chassis, a limited slip differential and independent suspension and the end result is a unique product with unmatched driving thrills and a maximum speed of 170km/hour.

Yet, the GG Quad is not just another fast product. Its creators heavily emphasized reliability and safety. They tested every single component for thousands of kilometres and added powerful brakes (four 270mm floating, four-caliper disk brakes disks) to give the driver a sense of confidence and increase driving pleasure.

Launched in 2004, the GG Quad bike is not your conventional off-roader. Quite the opposite. It is designed strictly for road-use, providing excellent stability and performance. The bike costs 50,000 USD and has a niche clientele of about 200 riders scattered throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, and Dubai. You can also buy parts online via the company’s website.

Founded in 1983 by Walter Grüter, the company wanted to mesh unique designs with reliable motorbike technology. Its best selling bikes include the 1994 GG Duetto with a sidecar and BMW engine; the 1998 V-twin Guzzi engine Spartaco with high-tech braking and suspension; and the elegant-looking GG Curso in 2000. The company also manufactures special accessories for BMW and Moto Guzzi.

You can get as personal as you want with this Quad bike. The company offers an array of customization options from differential controls, additional brakes and special exhausts to an alarm system and heated grips. The client can also order, at an additional cost naturally, made-to-order painting finishes, lettering or logos. You can also ask for a two-way radio to converse (not shout) with guests that might fancy a lift on this wonder vehicle.

Another version of this GG Quad is also available. Called ‘Liberty’, it has some fancy features that differentiate it from the already-amazing package, such as Garmin GPS, an MP3 and CD player and an additional oil cooler (suitable for hot temperature countries such as the GCC).

Driving this bike is, in effect, sheer pleasure because GG Motorradtechnik has managed to make a four-wheeled bike feel like its leaner and meaner sibling. This is a rare specimen that ensures hours upon hours of a liberating experience. Reason enough to start planning your days off.
