It’s about time to take the environment more seriously. Global warming is a problem that is creeping up on us at an alarming pace if former US Vice President Al Gore’s gripping and award winning documentary, The Inconvenient Truth, is to be believed. There are ways you can help reverse what will eventually be a crippling situation for future generations. The key is to live intelligently by creating an environment-friendly home.

Just to give you something to think about. It is estimated that the average person uses up to 300 litres of fresh water a day – totalling a quarter-of-a-million Olympic swimming pools globally. Also, dwindling fossil fuels mean that we need to find alternative sources of sustainable carbon-neutral energies.

Here are some easily-installable products you can use in your home to save energy, water, money and our planet.

1. EcoBETA dual flush toilet

Easy to fit in virtually any toilet tank, it has two functions. Single button handling, it works according to a small flush/big flush system, HYPERLINK "http://www.ecobeta.com" www.ecobeta.com.

2. MEET water reducers

Installed within five minutes, these tamper-proof adaptors fits neatly into faucets and showers, thus saving over14,600 litres of water a person per year, HYPERLINK "http://www.meetech.biz" www.meetech.biz.

3. Energy-saving light bulb

Leaving the light on can do much damage to your monthly bill, not to mention the heavy cost, in environmental terms, of burning oil barrels or natural gas. This light bulb is an easy, quick and safe option, available from most supermarkets and hardware shops.

4. Solarnet solar energy system

Running your heating and hot water all day is very expensive. Opt for these solar panels instead of regular electricity; they usually pay for themselves within a year or two, HYPERLINK "http://www.solarnet-online.com" www.solarnet-online.com.

5. Southwest Windpower energy

An oldie but a goldie, this reliable system harnesses the wind and creates energy from it. There is a good selection of wind turbines that you can choose from for your home, cabin or even your sailboat, HYPERLINK "http://www.windernergy.com" www.windernergy.com.
