First off, let’s get the apology out of the way. While we are aware of the fact we have awarded the Kormaran based on the fact that it’s a toy, it could well become much more than that, a seminal product that points the way to the future of luxury boating. But could and should are worlds apart and for now, we think you’ll agree that it’s simply one heck of a plaything.
Designed by a small Australian company with a not-so-small project investment of 12 million USD, the Kormaran is like the Optimus Prime of the seas, effortlessly transforming from monohull to catamaran to trimaran to bathing deck, and then finally into ‘flight mode’, with two hydrofoils shifting out so as to decrease water resistance and increase efficiency and speed.
The Kormaran promises to be a truly unique sea creature that’s not so much a mode of transport as much as an incubator of innovation, and, a good looking one at that. With its gorgeous carbon fibre hull wrapped in beautiful teak and finished with a teal light that envelopes the craft in a cloud of soft blue, it’s definitely designed to make a splash. The only downside we can see is that it accommodates just a pilot and two passengers. Then again, that’s hardly a deal breaker, is it? We simply can’t wait to get our hands on one.
