The largest and most established motoring event in the Middle East is back with its raft of global and regional launches as well as concept creations. Although the Dubai International Motor Show has emerged as the regional leader connecting the global automotive industry with motoring enthusiasts, trade professionals and the most exciting models and marques, it also does much more than that.
At this show, motorcycles, light commercial vehicles and the tuning and aftermarket sectors all have their place, as do the classics. Visitors can step over to the Motoring Nostalgia display at the UAE Motoring Museum to rediscover the forgotten models of the past few decades, a quiet counterpoint to the headline reveals elsewhere on the floor.
To step into the future, you will find supercars at the Boulevard of Dreams, alongside a Connected Cars showcase of trends in automotive technology that include smartphone integration, satellite connectivity and autonomous driving systems. It is a reminder that the modern motor show is now as much about software and connectivity as it is about horsepower and bodywork.
On the ground, you can experience a thrilling partnership between Jaguar and Bloodhound SSC, which aims to raise the World Land Speed Record beyond 1,000 mph by assisting the next generation of scientists and engineers. Jaguar has created a 1,000 mph Experience simulator to give visitors the opportunity to set the new record from behind the wheel of the Bloodhound.
And if you fear the event is a little too male-centric, rest assured there is a dedicated place for female enthusiasts, built around exclusive networking and competitions. Then again, the show has a knack for surpassing expectations, and this edition looks set to do just that.
