What better way to celebrate your brand’s 90th birthday than to make a cross-disciplinary collaboration? That’s exactly what Gucci has done with Riva in producing the ‘Aquariva by Gucci’, a model penned by the Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini herself.
What are the key ingredients? Start with an Aquariva, a model first drawn up by Officina Italiana Design in 2000 to resemble the historic Aquarama’s, yet bring it into the 21st century with cutting-edge technologies. Then rework the fibreglass hull and detailing in Gucci’s own hue of glossy white. Upholster the seats and sundeck in a waterproof Guccissima print. Cover the beds in Gucci white cotton. Next, install a green crystal windshield. After that add Gucci's green-red-green web detailing along the floating line and then complete the package with a series of exclusive Riva by Gucci accessories.
It all works rather well, the new Gucci look actually manages to flatter Riva’s signature varnished mahogany and seductive lines to make a highly desirable product. As Frida Giannini explained, “Over the decades the iconic Riva boat has become without doubt one of the most evocative images of Italian style, sophistication and elegance. It is therefore especially meaningful in Gucci's 90th anniversary year to be able to recognise and celebrate the great traditions and values of both, Gucci and Riva, through the Aquariva by Gucci." The Aquariva by Gucci will be exclusively available on a made-to-order basis through Riva's dealer network.
