Soraya Bakhtiar describes her personal style as “girly and bohemian” and “edgy and boyish” but any ambivalence she may have about her look isn’t shared on her eponymous and increasingly influential fashion blog.
Started just a year and a half ago, while she was studying fashion journalism at London’s College of Fashion and interning at various magazines, she’s now got over 25,000 followers on Instagram and the number is fast-rising.
The self-proclaimed shy girl moved to Switzerland after her stint in London and briefly worked in PR before deciding to focus on her blog. “It’s a full-time job and the most exciting thing that had ever happened in my life,” she tells me. “Living in London truly inspired me and has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone.”
Of course, we live in an age where almost every fashion-obsessed girl has a blog. But to discover what makes Bakhtiar’s website so different takes just a few clicks. Her distinctive fashion sense and in-depth international coverage make it a fun, yet truly informative guilty pleasure. Unlike most run-of-the-mill street style bloggers, she features everything from burgeoning fashion and beauty trends, to interviews with big name designers and even a shopping page, which makes it easy for readers to snap up any of her must-have items.
In chronicling her various looks - which mix high-street finds with high-end designer pieces - Bakhtiar displays impressive styling talent, attracting a slew of fashionable followers who turn to her blog for inspiration.
No wonder she has caught the eye of heavy-hitters in the world of fashion magazines. And when she admits that her ultimate dream is to one day become an influential editor, it seems the young ingénue’s star is only set to rise further. “I'm working on some really interesting collaborations,” she tells us. “As for what, you'll just have to wait and see!”
