Saudi Arabia plans to build the world's largest clock tower in the holy city of Mecca. The 380-metre tower forms part of the King Abdul Aziz Endowment Project. It will rise higher than Poland’s Warsaw Palace of Culture and Science (230 metres), London's Big Ben (96 metres) and India’s Rajabai Clock Tower in Mumbai (85 metres), according to the governor of Mecca. Developed by Turner, the multi-functional 800,000 square metre project will also include a 13-storey podium, four residential towers, one five-star hotel, retail facilities, food courts and speciality restaurants.

Qatar's foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr al-Thani has just bought himself the most expensive apartment in London. His new home – reportedly costing 196 million USD – is the largest penthouse in the new One Hyde Park development overlooking Hyde Park. Designed by Richard Rogers Partnership, the development will include 84 apartments and a concierge service. The penthouses are rumoured to feature bullet-proof windows, specially purified air and ‘panic rooms’. It is also believed that security arrangements were done in consultation with the principal special forces unit of the British Army, the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). Luxury development management company Candy & Candy will be taking over the management. The project is due to be completed in two years and Sheikh Hamad is one of its key investors.
