A well-balanced vegetarian diet provides many health benefits while reducing the risk of obesity, coronary artery disease, high-blood pressure and diabetes as well as some types of cancer. Perhaps, only naturally, it was a matter of time before someone repackaged these benefits into something more palatable. Herald Magnolia, opened in April this year in Madinat Jumeirah and Dubai’s first haute-cuisine vegetarian restaurant.
Centred on a philosophy to make legumes look and taste more appetizing, the menu succeeds in creating a new outlook on organic produce. The eclectic and highly creative dishes stem from the talents of award-winning chef de cuisine Gabriele Kurz. The dining experience also includes an extensive list of waters that will leave you amazed and refreshed.
The signature Rosemary Potatoes wrapped in Eggplant and the Spinach Pimento Risotto are as pleasing to the palate as they are nutritious – all the vegetables and herbs are grown in the restaurant’s own garden. Other winning options include the slightly creamy Cauliflower Panna Cotta and the Herb Flower Salad with Wild Mushrooms. Magnolia also gets the thumbs up for its delectable deserts which are easily some of the most mouth-watering in town. Here again chef Kurz successfully merges taste with the affectation that comes with fine dining: the Iced Cardamom Coffee Cream with Fresh figs in Vanilla Grapefruit Syrup is particularly enticing if you have a sweet tooth.
The restaurant is unique for both its approach to food as well as its courage in breaking a long-held taboo. Wholesome can now also be exciting.
