Summer Seascape: BOSS Black Sets Sail With Its Carefree New Collection

Sold at more than 6,100 stores worldwide, BOSS Black, which accounts for about 65 per cent of all Hugo Boss sales, has been offering an array of elegant formalwear for both men and women since 1970 and 2000 respectively.

The latest collection, created under the theme of ‘Summer Seascape’, evokes a carefree spirit that is as classically casual as it is structurally cool. For its ad campaign, which features models Mark Vanderloo and Raquel Zimmerman, photographer Mario Sorrenti evoked the ambience of French New Wave cinema in an apparent homage to Jean-Luc Godard’s influential film ‘Le Mépris’.The architecture magnificently showcases the light, summery silhouettes of the airy fabrics, accentuating the easy and relaxed cuts, with a seductive hint of formality. We particularly love the slim, double-breasted two-button suits made from blends of cotton and silk. But the key statement is definitely the two-button navy blue and white pinstripe single-breaster teamed with a very attractive light blue button-down shirt. Rounding out the men’s Boss Black range, at least on the casual side, is the ‘Ceane’ jacket in rich lamb leather. Sure, it may be a leather jacket, but it’s so fine that it can only ever be worn in summer. We found it would look just right with a pair of relaxed denims.

Overall, the Boss Black palette is predominated by light blue, navy and white but there is also a strong presence of beige, khaki as well as an array of sand hues. Should you feel the need to be more conspicuous then there’s a fuschia dinner jacket but it certainly wasn’t our favourite look. Boss Black may surprise with its curious combinations and ensembles, but it is bound to continue its legacy. However formal or chic, there is a constant undertone of the cutting-edge in the look.
