The world of ‘restomods’ is finally expanding beyond vintage 911s with surprise additions like this ‘Project MA-01’ from a company called Modena Automobili. It’s a reincarnation of the much-loved Maserati Biturbo Shamal from the 1990s and thankfully it fixes all the period issues of that car, while retaining the good stuff. In other words, the Shamal’s stunning looks created by Marcello Gandini (the genius who penned the Lamborghini Countach) have been kept intact but its engine (which was prone to overheating) has been replaced with the modern Ghibli S’s 3-litre twin-turbo V6, as well as its ZF gearbox. Rust issues have been eliminated thanks to all new body panels crafted in steel and carbon, and they provide better cooling and aerodynamics too. The suspension has been revised, the brakes now employ modern Brembo discs, and even the inside has been overhauled. Sadly, it’s pricey at 635,000 USD, but then again that’s 40 per cent cheaper than a Singer Classic Turbo 911.

Above: Analog charm, digital precision combine in Modena Automobili’s MA-01 cabin, blending hand-stitched Italian luxury, modern interfaces, and focussed driver ergonomics into a Shamal cockpit finally engineered to feel as special as it always looked.
