Harry Winston watches combine unique and daring time-telling designs with technical precision allied to exotic movements. Innovative and precious materials are something of a trademark as well: diamonds, gold, platinum and the company’s own Zalium, abound.

This September marked a decade since, Harry Winston first wowed customers with its limited edition Opus collections. As the company puts it “Opus is more than a watch development: it is a human journey, it is emotion and devotion and the meeting of different point of views and personalities.” With each new collection, the prestigious company presents an innovative way of telling time and this year Harry Winston out did itself with the Opus X.

The product of collaboration with talented watchmaker Jean-Francois Mojon, Opus X is a timepiece that raises the bar to celestial heights. The goal was to capture the dimensionality of time and the result is a design that is in constant motion, where time is displayed using a system of rotating indicators mounted on a revolving frame.

“The technical challenge here is the rotating ‘frame’; as it completes a full rotation, the dials of each indicator turn in the opposite direction, ensuring constant orientation in every position,” explains a Harry Winston spokesperson.

Although Harry Winston watches are in high demand among aficionados around the world, each Opus collection is strictly limited edition. According to the company, the number of pieces created depends on production complexity as well as the complication of the time-telling movements. As a result it’s hardly surprising that the Opus X is limited to just 100 pieces available at Harry Winston boutiques worldwide.

The Opus X is no impulse buy. But for connoisseurs it’s likely a fair price; this is the first, and likely last, Harry Winston that will feature rotating bezels in the place of traditional arms. Unique among an already select group, the Opus X is indeed something special.
