1)Who is Maia N?
Maia N is a maker of high-end luxury bags created in 2004 by Lebanese/Polish sisters Maya and Joanna. Head designer Maya Nakhle is a Central Saint Martins graduate who is now based in Amman, Jordan.
2) Why did you get into this business?
I’ve always been interested in the arts. My mom is a pianist, my sister a jewelry designer and my father had an advertising agency, so creativity was encouraged in our household while I was growing up. I decided to be a part of the fashion industry because design comes naturally to me and I have the opportunity to create something that’s classic and defines someone’s style.
3) What is your edge?
The classic design, the quality of the material we use and our price point.
4) Where do you sell Maia N handbags?
We are available in more than 20 countries including Boutique 1 in Dubai, Printemps in Paris, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong, Podium in Russia and Intermix in New York.
5) What is the best thing about your job?
I love the design process from beginning to end and to see the final product and a collection in its entirety is very exciting. It’s also very rewarding to see celebrities carrying our bags on the red carpet and in the press.
6) If you could be given any handbag in the world which would it be?
A crocodile handbag that will last for generations.
7) If you could look inside anyone’s handbag, whose would it be?
Anna Wintour. I'm curious to know what she carries in her handbag.
8) What is the strangest thing you always carry in your handbag?
A small "gri-gri".
9) Sling, tote, clutch or duffle?
Clutch.
10) Manbags - fashion statement or fashion crime?
Men’s travel bags can definitely be a fashion statement.
11) Would you rather be in fashion or ahead of it?
In our line of work we always have to be ahead of it. It’s important to take risks.
12) Which designer do you most admire?
I really like Chritophe Decarnin for Balmain and Alexander Wang.
13) Which celebrity is the best dressed?
The model Natalia Vodianova.
14) How would you liked to be remembered?
As a luxury brand that creates unique designs that are timeless and classic.
