Making a splash

Super couturier Elie Saab has just designed his very first superyacht. Not only did he create the exterior and interior of this sleek vessel, he even added his touch to its helicopter, car, submarine, tenders and water toys too.

The yacht revealed here is the first of three enormously-sized pleasure vessels to be designed by the Lebanese designer Elie Saab. In consultation with Weyves Couture, Saab was able to pen a striking and functional superyacht exterior, which will then be engineered and manufactured by Oceanco in Holland. At 117-metres in length and almost 19-metres in width, it is as impressive in its dimensions as the refinement of its design.

“I always sought to represent my vision of modernity and elegance beyond the conventional limits of fashion, “ declared Saab during the superyacht’s unveiling at this year’s Abu Dhabi Yacht Show. “Designing a yacht and conceiving its art of living constitute a perfect opportunity to expand my brand’s universe by creating the experience of ultimate luxury.”

Commenting on Saab’s creative input in the design project, Donald Potard, a partner in Weyves Couture, said “The couture concept offers a level of distinctiveness to owners who wish to go beyond the conventional sense of luxury. Elie Saab is the only person who could have delivered the heady cocktail of power, balance and elegance in both its striking exterior presence and superior interior comforts.”

Highlighting the sense of space and refinement has been central to Saab’s creative direction. Every detail has been put in place to showcase the exceptional quality of the materials used, and the skill of the master craftsmen associated with this project. The final design of the yacht reveals some extraordinary features such as unprecedentedly high ceilings throughout, two private owner’s suites on separate decks, a further 10 luxurious guest suites, a swimming pool, whirlpool, theatre, spa and gym.

While construction won’t commence until a contract is signed, interested parties can expect a 20-knot top end, due to hybrid power that includes four MTU 20V4000 diesel engines.
