Biography
Travel is a long-term passion of Gabriella Cortese. Italian by birth and Parisian by adoption, Antik Batiks creator, Gabriella Cortese’s passion for travel has been one of the main influences throughout her beautiful and intricate creations.
Covering all five continents through extensive travel, Gabriella has drawn heavily on influences from across the globe, especially from Indonesia and India.
It was while Gabriella was in Bali that she discovered Batik, the ancient craft of printing onto fabric. Centered and inspired, she took on this skill designing prints and matching colours with a variety of styles, using luxury fabrics such as sheer silks and sequined cloths to create beautiful and boho-chic creations. The technique of Batik in turn inspired her label name.
After initially designing a collection of scarfs, bags and belts using the batik techniques, Gabriella expanded her collections to include clothing which she marketed on her return to France in 1992. The Antik Batik’s foundations were laid and in 1994 her first collection was launched.
Gabriella’s creations are much more than a fashion label, Antik Batik is an emblem of the boho-chic lifestyle.
