They are two names we have only recently become acquainted with: Cuixmala and CDLP. Let us start with the first. Cuixmala is a sprawling estate on the Mexican Pacific coast, set in over 12,000 hectares of nature reserve that stretches across land, crocodile-filled lagoons and kilometres of private beaches. It was originally built as a private home by the flamboyant — and notoriously press-hating — billionaire Sir James Goldsmith. After his death in 1997, his daughter Alix Marcaccini took charge of the property and converted it into an eco-friendly luxury resort.

The other is CDLP, a Swedish design company that has specialised, since 2016, in luxury men's essentials. These are consciously crafted in Portugal using Econyl, an innovative Italian-sourced regenerated nylon fibre made from ocean waste. While we have yet to visit Cuixmala, we know CDLP well and have become avid fans of both their underwear and their swimwear.

Their limited-edition collaboration makes perfect sense. It draws inspiration from the resort's characteristic colour-blocking to offer a new-look swim brief, swim short and throw, in combinations of Fuchsia and Flame, Maya Blue, and Night Blue with Corazón Red. The collection is available exclusively through Cuixmala's, CDLP's and Mr Porter's online platforms.

A partnership between CDLP and Cuixmala stands up for many reasons — not least the fact that both fly under the radar, believe in protecting the environment and enjoy bold plays of colour. It is, in other words, a meeting of like minds as much as a meeting of palettes.
