Why We Love Amazónico Monte-Carlo, the Latin American Clubstaurant in Casino Square

Amazónico began in Madrid in 2016 as a trendy Latin American restaurant and bar. Its success led to new openings in London and then Dubai, and Monte-Carlo became the fourth outpost when it opened last April. Madrid's ever-popular "clubstaurant" has now arrived in the most prime spot in town.

From the moment you arrive at the top floor of this new development you are greeted by fire and action from the visible kitchen, then you see a terrace with luscious foliage, a bar of exotic jungle textures, and hear cool tunes. The location, on the roof over Café de Paris, is extraordinary. Not only is it smack-bang in the middle of Casino Square, it also comes with a lounge bar, restaurant, private club, cigar terrace and a 1,000-square-metre terrace.

The place is a riot of wild décor, punchy flavours and late-night salsa. Live performances of Latin jazz, bossa nova and Cuban music are a key part of the festive experience, but, crucially, the volume levels are absolutely perfect, adding to the vibe without distracting from the conversation. The whole experience is supposed to make you feel as though you have journeyed along the Amazon. It is a lot of fun, and it does not have to end there, as there is also a club, hidden at the bottom of a leopard-print staircase.

Start with a cocktail, then whet your palate with some ceviches and sushi, but do not forget the salads and empanadas. And make sure to save room for mains, like the charcoal-cooked fish and the must-try Brazilian picanha rodizio.
