Arboreal Retreat: The Invisible Swedish Treehouse Hidden in the Forest

Intro:

An invisible treehouse seems outlandish, a boyhood dream perhaps; Tham and Videgard Hansson Arkitekter (TVH) of Stockholm have turned it into a reality in line with nature and an escapist spirit.

Hidden in a forest in the North of Sweden and suspended among pines is the ultimate in boyish fantasy: an invisible tree house. This incredible piece of futuristic design is, in fact, an eco-friendly hotel.

TVH are at the cutting edge of design, visually striking buildings with a nod to the environment are their forte. The Swedish firm are moving with the times, creating buildings with an individual style all over the country. The tree hotel is no exception.

Nestled in the forest just outside the village of Harads, the first six cabins are due for completion by the end of the year. The stunning visuals and isolated location are sure to attract those looking for something a little different.

The structure is made from lightweight aluminum and plywood to enable it to be suspended from a tree, a truly remarkable feat in itself. The most striking aspect, the mirrored effect, is achieved by using mirrored glass as walls, resulting in the incredible camouflage effect as it reflects light from the surroundings.

The glass walls mean that the occupant has a 360 degree view of their surroundings, while remaining hidden from passersby. It’s perhaps the ultimate chance to be at one with nature, totally undisturbed and yet living in comfort. The stunning panoramic views and the unspoiled location mean that the cabins offer a unique opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the forest.

Every cabin will be self-contained, boasting enough space for two people, a double bed, a kitchenette, a bath, a living room and a rooftop terrace. Access to the cabins comes in the form of a rope ladder, or a rope bridge that connects to the adjacent tree. In terms of tree houses, it’s as luxurious as you can get. The tree hotel will be supported by a nearby conventional hotel, so there’s no skimping on the usual services you’d expect.

As eco-friendly breaks go, this is certainly an exciting, rare opportunity. Being at one with nature normally goes hand-in-hand with a certain level of deprivation, not any more it seems.
