Tying The Knot

Whether on your own yacht or someone else’s this summer, there is one knot you should learn to pass yourself off as the expert skipper. Affectionately known as the ‘Bunny method’ by seafarers, the process of forming the knot is likened to a rabbit coming out of its hole, skirting around a tree only to dive back into its underground quarters. Once mastered the Bowline is surprisingly simple to perform, doesn’t jam and is very easy to undo.

Step 1

Make a small loop in the rope

Step 2

Bring the end of the rope up through the hole

Step 3

Pass the end that has gone through the hole around the rope

Step 4

Feed the rope back down into the hole
