No a stranger to that era, Emmanuelle Ungaro grew up in Italy before fleeing its Fascist regime for the more democratic shores of the South of France in the early part of the rule of Benito Mussolini. Following short-lived stints with Balenciaga and Courrèges, and still in his 20s, Ungaro established his own label in 1965.
