Resides in: Kruger splits her time between Paris and Vancouver
Do you feel that as you get older, both you and the roles you play are changing too?
No one really wants to get older but I do believe that there is a time for everything in life. My one fear is that I wake up one day with a shelf stacked with Oscars and no one in my life to share it with. If having a husband and children means that roles dry up, then that's fine with me.
Why was it important for you to represent CK?
My journey and message are simply trying to understand the world and ultimately myself. Trying to really be a better person.
What do you think of [Calvin Klein creative director] Francisco Costa?
I like his understatement. Nobody seems to hold back anymore, people think that more is more and more is better. But for me, holding back is classy and sexy, so we’re perfect match!
Is CK cinematic?
Oh yes. CK captures time and it's provocative at the right time too. Christy Turlington and Eva Mendes along with other CK models are not one type of woman. CK celebrates different types of women, common women and self-confident women.
The ad for ‘Beauty’ features you in a white dress, how did it make you feel?
I feel like usually how you hide behind the dresses you wear, but in that white dress I felt like myself: A sexual woman who is feminine and discreet without flaunting it.
What does fashion mean to you? (Kruger started her career in modelling at the age of 15).
Fashion for me is fun and it is an expression of my personality. However, the vanity of modelling has worn away and now I wear the clothes, the clothes do not wear me.
How would you describe the relationship between fashion and celebrity?
Stylists are there to help dress the actors and it's all driven by the media. The minute you wear a dress and take your first step onto the red carpet, you're criticised. I believe that fashion is personal and it's an expression of ones personality.
What's next for you?
I'm just at the beginning of my career. I want to be able to choose more of my own roles. When I turned 30 I realised that I still didn't know much. I was well travelled, spoke languages, but still didn't really know anything. I never asked the right questions. My goal in my 30s is to be more accomplished, to learn more and to not be vacant.
