What do the BMW Z8, the Aston Martin DB9 and the Karma have in common? One
name: Henrik Fisker. Revered for designing premium automobiles, US-based
sportscar design house Fisker Coachbuild, in a joint venture with Quantum Technologies, is set to revolutionise the eco-friendly hybrid car.
Boasting a super-low centre of gravity and far better fuel economy than a
Toyota Prius at an awe-inspiring 2.35litres/100km to the Prius' 4.4litres/100km, the car's overall look is sleek and sexy. A fact boosted by its acceleration speed of 0-100km/h of 5.8 seconds.
The Karma's most radical feature is its plug-in hybrid technology, the Quantum Drive, which delivers 80km from the lithium-ion battery packs alone. For longer distances, a small-capacity petrol engine kicks in to produce power for the electric motors, extending the range to 1,000km.
The unfortunate truth is that plugging in to the mains will not save the planet until governments find alternative ways of creating electricity. But whatever the case, this 200km/h topping beauty is sure to be in high demand so put down a deposit now as only 15,000 will be produced.
