1940s

Inspired by the late 1940s this chic look is perfect for a classy night out. It’s usually styled with an off-center/ side part, which used to be the fundamental aspect of the look. Over the years, however, hair appliances improved, enhancing styles such as this one. The 1940s trend began to include features such as big prominent curls, short firm waves and smooth, shiny locks, all due to better quality curling irons. For some of you women who find it hard to keep those tousled curls in place, slather on some hair product or add a cute clip to secure them. It takes a while to fix this hairstyle so give yourself some time during the day to get it done right, or you can do as they did in the 1940s and not wash your hair for months, but don’t expect to be invited out with those mangy tresses. Wear with less hair product to convey a casual, more relaxed mermaid hair style during the day. A great feature of this style is its suitability with all hair colours, and almost all hair lengths.

Sleek look

A futuristic look is always appreciated in the fashion world. This sleek styled hair is the androgynous look that is all the rave right now. Most commonly styled with a distinctive side part, it goes great with long and short hair alike. For your lengthy locks, Slick back with gel and a wide toothed comb, it should look voluminous and lustrous. If you have frizzy hair put on a special straightening serum. The sleek look can be modified to fit you own taste or bone structure; you can plait the loose strands, add hair decorations or put into a high or low ponytail. If you have shorter hair however, the variety of style diminishes as it could only focus on the fringe. You can chose to add layers to your fringe or go for the female dandy look by defining your part and wearing it as far to the side as possible. Just try to avoid looking like you’ve just come in from the rain, shower or a matrix movie.

Braids

A more natural approach to style, this cute look is the perfect solution for unkempt hair. The braid can be styled in a number of ways and could also be unwrapped to reveal a natural bend in the hair. Say good-bye to those frustrating bad hair days with these three flirtatious styles: The Twist and Rope braid, achieved by separating two strands of hair, tightly twisting them and then winding them around each other forming a rope like braid; Rumored to be the real way Rapunzel let her man up to her quarters, can u imagine the split ends! Other than letting it cascade down a window of a very tall tower, why not twist it around the head for a milkmaid look or tie into a bun for a more formal occasion. The last two are the Side-Swept style for the hanging side fringe, and the French braid, which begins at the very top of the head, and left to fall down the back. It’s simple, attractive and very feminine.

Fringe

Reminiscent of adolescent rock bands, this style has been recently upgraded and is worn by men between the ages of 15 to 35. The key to this trend is the length of the fringe, you might think it trivial but having a brow length fringe is frowned upon when compared to the stylish layered fringe that hangs just above the temples by a few centimeters. For the hair trend to take on its full effect, the back and sides of the head must be cut short and tucked away with wax, gel or whatever product you use. To achieve the just-above-temple length, layer the hair as previously mentioned, bring it forward onto forehead, and chose the side of your slant. If you’re not blessed with naturally straight frizz-free hair, then go ahead and straighten it, we won’t judge. The great thing about this style is that you’ll never forget to cut it, when your vision becomes compromised then its time to shorten the fringe.

Buzz Cut

Shave it off with no care in the world, literally, this hairstyle requires minimal maintenance and works best on people who are busy and rarely care about their hair. Made popular by the military this look started off as a requirement for soldiers, the Romans would shave their head before battle so that the enemy couldn’t grab it and expose their neck. What better way to show off your manliness without hitting the gym three times a week. It’s an easy and popular look which mostly requires it to have equal and same length all around the head. Or as an alternative style you can leave the top part a grade or two longer than the sides, no more than this or you’ll look like a throwback to the 1980s. The only downside here is that your head is left unprotected and risks getting sunburnt, so make sure to have some sunscreen handy. Other than that, enjoy the style that is the epitome of masculinity.

Classic Part

Although it has been modified over the years to suit modern trends such as the Fringe, the Classic Part will always be a unique trend of its own. Yes, it has been adapted to suit the younger generation, but the quintessential Classic Part is timeless and will never go out of fashion. That being said, debonair icons of past and present have worn this style with such grace, George Clooney and the Duke of Windsor to name a few. There aren’t many ways to style the part it’s just a simple side sweep from top of head to crown and can be achieved no matter what your hair type, just use styling products and a comb; it usually works best if hair is dry. For those of you with straight hair, leave a longer cut on top as it is easy to style to the side. The men with not so straight hair will need to go for shorter cuts in order to keep it under control. The wavier the hair, the more you’ll need to cut or straighten. If none of that work for you then this style is not for you, try shaving it instead!
