As the Witch of the East, I would like to share a timeless story with you about an ancient land by a river.

13 Jul 2009 By Official Bespoke 2 min read

Once upon a time, on a land not too far away actually, there existed a civilisation that believed in having a light heart. Yes you read it correctly - a light heart.

In my copy of the ancient Book of the Dead a deceased man is shown to be standing before a huge scale. The scale is in fact the Goddess of Judgment and she can be seen balancing a feather taken from her coiffed hair against the man’s heart on the opposite side of the scale. The ceremony is to verify that the man’s heart is light enough for him to enter heaven. Standing nearby is a human with a head of a monster, sinisterly waiting to gobble the man up should his heart prove to be heavier than the feather. The goddess is Ma’at. The civilisation is Ancient Egypt.

Have you ever noticed how sometimes you can be as light and bubbly as champagne, and other times you feel downhearted.

Forget a romantic solution, we all know that when we fall in love we all have a light heart for a couple of months, however, romance brings its fair share of worries.

How about some love for oneself?

Most likely what’s causing the heavy heart is one’s own human judgment…it’s the judgment that won’t let one forgive oneself, which will cause one to be critical of others as well.

As a witch, I found the plant that can fix this limiting judgment, peppermint. This plant can actually transform those ‘bad vibes’ so I use it in my potions whenever I want to lighten someone’s heart.

Try it on someone you have unwillfully wronged. Thanks to the powers of peppermint they may even forget they were angry at all. So potent is this ingredient that I guarantee the desire result.

The secret is in the fact that astrologically, peppermint is attuned to the planet mercury, mercury corresponds to the cerebral nervous system, left side of the nose, and the right ear. Mercury attuned plants give clarity to the mind. Never underestimate clarity; it sets one free. When one has genuine clarity one realises that nothing is as bad as it seems, not the other way around.

There is a famous British Government poster published during World War II that some of you will be familiar with. It stated in its matter-of-fact way, “Keep Calm and Carry on”. Good advice, however it was probably most infuriating for those that did not know how to keep calm.

The witch’s going to remix this quote: “Smell Peppermint then Carry on.”

Tip

The tools you will need: A Diffuser, and a small candle.

The ingredients: peppermint essential oil, water, and fire.

The spell:

Buy a diffuser and peppermint essential oil.

Pour some water into the diffuser.

Add about ten drops of peppermint essential oil into the water.

Light the candle with fire. Slip the candle in its place in the diffuser.

Enjoy the enchanted atmosphere you are about to create.

* Caution: do not use it too often lest it looses its potency.
