1. Testing a scent
Our body’s pH value affects scents. That is why a perfume smells differently depending on the person wearing it. So dab a little on the inside of your wrists making sure to not rub them together as that will destroy the fragrance’s structure causing it to evaporate quicker. Once applied, give the scent some time to reveal all of its notes.
2. Apply to the body
Apply after showering and before dressing. Proceed from top to bottom, as aromas rise and are activated by temperature. Interestingly, the trace of a scent lasts longer if applied to pulse points. Therefore apply a little to your neck, as well as behind the elbows, wrists and knees.
3. In the buff
Perfume is designed to work with your body by interacting with your own natural pheromones so spraying scent on your clothes is not advisable. What’s more perfume applied to clothing will quickly fade and some scents can even cause discolouration of fabrics.
4. More or less
The amount you should apply depends on your surroundings. In hotter climates, apply less as heat hydrates the skin, allowing for better absorption of scents. On the other hand, the cold makes fragrances less volatile meaning they last longer. If the weather is mild, spraying on more is advisable.
5. The lasting effect
For a finishing touch, try spraying a little perfume on your brush before you give your hair a once-over. This works wonders because hair is more porous than skin so it can better absorb the perfume. It will also help allow the fragrance to last longer.
