A Thousand and One Nights at Layalina

One of the latest trends in London has been the Arabian themed nights at some of the hottest spots in town.

Although the ‘chichas’ and the mint teas have become quite usual in most parts, we had yet to see a new concept emerging out of the sands of time in the last decade.

But all hope is not lost for something new as this finally came to be recently, in the form of the latest nightclub: Layalina, meaning ‘our nights’ in Arabic.

This new jewel in the crown of London’s most frequented hotspots was a treat and promises eastern delights within a western setting.

As you enter Layalina on Beachamp place, you immediately feel the mixed vibe of East and West united . From the black and white couch at the entrance nearest the upstairs bar to the simply but elegantly decorative walls and wallpaper, the atmosphere is one of classy serenity bringing a feeling of home away from home-if you are lucky enough to live in a palace that is.

The black urns set against the walls evoke images of Asian and Eastern faraway places, brought closer to home by Reema Ghibreel’s artistic talents, a new and budding interior designer making a name for herself with this venture.

Layalina is a brilliant contrast of light and dark, reminding one of a clear night sky with bright stars a combination of dark rooms and crystal clear lights leading down from the main bar area to the adjoining band area and downstairs to the spacious piece de resistance where you can see belly dancers with swords and canes dancing the night away to the beats of Arabian nights, or listen to the smooth sounds of an alternative band playing the latest hits of rock and pop music.

The hidden endless rooms of Layalina remind one of hidden desert treasures and mysterious discoveries, in this case of quaint tables and seating areas around every winding corner, an endless choice of places to sit or stand, throughout the many levels on offer catering to all tastes in music or space. It combines a mixture of East and West perfectly and the bar area provides a good selection of drinks and snacks.

You enter Layalina thinking it to be a small space, only to discover more and more secret alcoves of ‘caved’ tables, seats, bars and stage areas.

A real delight! Like a thousand and one nights, I am sure this new jewel will be treasured by regulars as well as discovered by new comers , and will not be a secret for long, whilst continuously offering its guests new surprises and delights at every turn.
